- But he was too drunk after promotion celebrations
Australian international footballer Jackson Irvine has been forced to cancel his wedding after two drunken days celebrating his promotion.
The former Burton Albion and Hull City star, 31, led German side St. Pauli back to the top of the country after their 3-1 win over VFL Osnabruck on Sunday.
He was due to tie the knot with fiancée Jemilla in Denmark on Tuesday, but the worst-wearing footballer forgot to bring his passport to the ceremony, prompting Danish officials to refuse to go ahead with the ceremony.
Jemilla, a tattoo artist, shared on Instagram what had happened, with the couple forced to postpone the job until he felt better.
“When you’re drunk for two days and forget to bring your passport to your wedding appointment,” she posted alongside three clown emojis.

“Let’s try again tomorrow,” she added. “(The party is still going on tonight).”
Irvine has had a successful career in European football after signing for Celtic from Melbourne Victory in 2010.
He made one appearance for the Scottish giants before representing Kilmarnock and Ross County. In 2016, Burton paid a club record fee of £330,000 to take him to the Midlands.
Irvine played for Hull for three seasons before returning north of the border with Hibs in 2021, representing Australia 66 times and contributing 11 goals for the Socceroos.
As well as captaining his club in Germany, Irvine has also worn the armband for the Socceroos.
