I was the Surgeon General under President Trump – these are the four foods I eat every day to live as long as possible

The Surgeon General in charge of former President Donald Trump’s health has an intriguing nutrition hack that he says will help him live longer.

Dr. Jerome Adams, who served from 2017 to 2021 and is an anesthesiologist, swears by a smoothie, which he drinks daily.

But it’s not a smoothie. Dr. Adams mentions four specific items that he says together provide a host of benefits.

They are spinach, almond milk, frozen fruits like strawberries or mangoes and carrots.

Not only is the fruity drink packed with essential micronutrients, he says it’s also filling, keeping him from snacking.

Dr. Adams, who is now a director at Purdue University in Indiana, says the smoothies help him eat less ultra-processed foods, such as sugary cereals, soft drinks, convenience foods and processed meats.

He told Business insider: ‘I’m not someone who really likes a lot of fruits and vegetables.

“(But) the best way for individuals to protect themselves is to include and replace fruits and vegetables with processed grains and artificial foods whenever we can. Smoothies are one way I achieve this.”

He added: ‘You can literally get a whole day’s worth of fruit and veg in one smoothie.

‘You can’t even taste the spinach. That’s my hack.’

Several studies have linked eating more fruits and vegetables to a longer life, including: 2021 study suggesting that eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day is associated with a significantly reduced risk of death from heart and respiratory disease.

Eating more fruits and vegetables can also help control body weight, as produce is low in calories.

It improves digestion and inflammation in the body – which can help extend lifespan.

Dr. Adams drinks the smoothie before he leaves the house or right after he gets home, and throws the ingredients in a blender for a quick fix.

Dr. Adams noted that some people add yogurt to smoothies, but he skips this ingredient because he is lactose intolerant.

While he was Surgeon General, Dr. Adams addressing the opioid epidemic and the untreated rise in mental illness.

But work was put on hold when Covid took hold in 2020 and Dr. Adams was appointed to the pandemic task force.

During this time, he made statements, among other things, that Covid masks may not help people avoid Covid-19 – later supported by research from the prestigious medical body the Cochrane Society.

The Trump administration reportedly sidelined him in April 2020. He was later asked to resign by the Biden administration in January 2021.

Dr. Adams also previously praised Trump’s diet, saying the then-president was “healthier” than the Surgeon General himself.

During a March 2020 interview, he said, “(President Trump) sleeps less than me and he’s healthier than me.”
