“While in the hospital, Kaylee underwent a craniectomy, a neurosurgical procedure in which part of Kaylee’s skull was removed to relieve pressure on her brain.
“The portion of Kaylee’s skull that was removed has still not been replaced. Since Kaylee underwent this procedure, it is necessary for her to wear a custom-made helmet to protect her brain in the event of a fall.
“Kaylee will undergo additional surgery to reattach this portion of her skull, which will again require hospitalization,” attorney Bryan M. Kaemmerer wrote.
Her family also said the young teen is suffering from short-term memory loss and will undergo extensive neuropsychological testing to determine the long-term impact of her injuries on her cognitive function.

The updates come the same week as a St. Louis County Circuit Court judge’s decision on whether Kaylee’s alleged attacker will be tried in court as an adult.
DeClue is charged with assault. Although the hearing is scheduled for today, it is not necessary for the judge to rule at that time.
Gain will not attend tomorrow’s hearing due to her condition, but her mother, father, stepmother and attorney will be present.
“The family has confidence in the legal system and trusts that the judge will make an appropriate decision based on all the facts and evidence in the case.
“The family will respect the ruling, regardless of the outcome,” the lawyer said.
Kaylee’s parents previously criticized their daughter’s accused attacker, who is in custody, and demanded she be tried as an adult.
“She is doing well physically, walking with little to no assistance, but she must wear a helmet for her safety as she is still missing her bone flap,” Kaylee’s parents shared in their most recent update
The last update that Clinton Gain shared on March 22 stated that Kaylee was finally able to breathe on her own and that she was in stable condition at the hospital.
“We are happy to share that Kaylee is breathing on her own, remains stable and the best news yet is that we have been moved out of the intensive care unit. We are truly blessed by the outpouring of support and your prayers.”
The GoFundMe has raised nearly $50,927 of its $100,000 and has attracted more than 1,000 donations.
In the weeks following the attack, Kaylee remained in a coma before eventually regaining consciousness and leaving the hospital in late March.
Her parents earlier focused on social media posts they believed they were made by DeClue, which was referenced WWE and made light of the situation.

However, Bryan Kaemmerer, who is representing Kaylee’s family, was forced to retract the claims in his earlier statement, admitting: “It appears that the social media posts made from an account containing the suspect’s name do not seem legitimate. in light of additional details that have emerged about the time of the suspect’s arrest, the suspect’s lack of access to her phone after she was taken into custody, and metadata showing exactly when these messages were first published .’
At the time, he added that Kaylee is recovering but “has a tendency to repeat the same short sentences over and over again,” and that she doesn’t know why she is in the hospital.
DeClue’s parents reportedly told local media that she wants to “apologize” to Kaylee.
They visited DeClue while she was in juvenile custody and claim police followed up on social media posts that allegedly contained threats against the teen.
DeClue’s aunt, Gwendolyn, said ‘cruel’ people managed to get their legal fee fundraiser dropped and that the 15-year-old is the real victim
His statement said Kaylee’s family was “heartened” after DeClue’s parents said she wanted to apologize for her actions.
“While these statements do not change the family’s position that it is appropriate for the suspect to be tried as an adult, it is encouraging that the suspect appears to be remorseful for what happened during these unfortunate events,” he added.
‘The family is grateful that the suspect apparently did not post these completely unsavory messages.
“However, this does not change the fact that the family firmly believes that there is ample evidence to try the suspect as an adult.”
DailyMail.com revealed that DeClue’s family said ‘cruel’ people managed to get their legal fees fundraiser scrapped and that the 15-year-old is the real victim.
During a hearing in St. Louis County Court earlier in April, officials set a date for DeClue’s May 10 certification hearing, which will decide whether she will be tried as an adult on first-degree assault charges.

Both parents attended the hearing, with the judge advising DeClue’s parents, Ronald, who attended court in a wheelchair, and Conseula that they have the right to an attorney in addition to their daughter.
Both declined to comment when contacted by DailyMail.com, but DeClue’s lawyer Gregory Smith added that she was “doing well” despite being in detention.
“She’s a smart girl,” Smith said. “We’re doing what we can to protect her from it, but she knows the law well.”
Judge Dodson ordered that both families be escorted out of the courtroom separately – which he said was a common practice in his courtroom. A management hearing will also take place on May 1, nine days before the certification hearing.
DeClue’s family, who publicly confirmed her name in a statement to “address the misconceptions” surrounding her arrest, launched a fundraising campaign to raise $150,000 to support her legal fees after she was charged with assault.
