From HUL to Britannia, FMCG companies lag behind India Inc. peers
Large listed FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) companies such as Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Nestlé and Britannia have been the best performing stocks on the stock exchanges in recent weeks.
The Nifty FMCG index, which tracks the share prices of the country’s 15 largest listed FMCG companies, rose 1.9 percent in May, compared to a 2.4 percent decline in the benchmark Nifty 50 during the period.
In contrast, the Nifty FMCG index had fallen 4.8 percent in the first four months of the calendar year 2024, compared to a 4 percent rise in the Nifty 50 during the period.
