The Wire star Jamie Hector speaks out about a possible REBOOT of the hit HBO series – and reveals why he loves playing such a ‘flawed’ character

Jamie Hector has shared his thoughts on the possibility of The Wire getting a reboot in the future and whether he thinks the hit HBO show, which also stars Dominic West and Idris Elba, would be just as successful today.

Jamie, 48, joined the crime drama television series in 2004 in its third season as an ambitious and ruthless gangster named Marlo Stanfield, who is the head of the eponymous Stanfield organization in the Baltimore drug trade.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com at the Opportunity Network’s annual Night of Opportunity Gala in New York City, Hector said he thinks The Wire should be left alone because life is “different now.”

“If something stays on a good note and you try to rewrite the book, or you try to expand the movie, or you try to recreate it – the mentality, the timing, the era, the people – everything has changed, it is so different, life is different now,” he said in response to the idea of ​​a reboot or spin-off series.

When asked how The Wire would be different if it were filmed in the current climate, Hector replied: ‘If it were created today, I think the difference would be between artificial intelligence and technology.

“It would be very difficult for anyone to commit the crimes and for the politicians to do the things they did because now there are cameras everywhere and your phone is listening to you.

“We used to use blowtorches and throw the burners into the show, but now that’s not the case,” the actor added.

“I think when it comes to technology, for the most part crime or accessible crime, like doing things on the street and getting away with it, it’s not as easy as it used to be for people to stand on the corner and sell. drugs.’

Following the success of The Wire, which ended in March 2008, Hector went on to star in several other TV shows, including Heroes and Power, and then took on the role of Detective Jerry Edgar in the Amazon Prime series Bosch, which ran from 2014 to 2021.

When asked if he’d rather play a good guy or a bad guy, Hector replied, “I’d rather play a flawed guy.” An authentic, rich and flawed individual trying to find his way and even when he finds his way, he encounters obstacles that are very difficult to overcome.”

Hector played a police officer in Bosch for seven years and explained that being on the set of a television show for that long is like being part of “a family.”

“We’re creating a community,” he explained. “So when it’s coming to an end, for example on The Wire, every time we heard that someone was going to be taken out, a seasoned actor, for the most part we all showed up on set… some of us, well, that I would. Then word started to get around.

“But you create a family, it’s standard for both producers and actors, if we’ve been on the show for a long time or if the show has done what it needs to do in people’s hearts and minds,” Hector said.

“People who love creativity and people who are influenced by it, I think those on set are creating a family because you can’t really fake that bond and those relationships.”

Most recently, Hector starred in the HBO series We Own This City, which aired in 2022 and chronicled the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force and the corruption surrounding it.

When asked if We Own This City was some kind of spinoff from The Wire, the show’s creator David Simon said in a 2022 interview, “This is the closest thing we’ve gotten to a sequel.”
