Mauricio Pochettino says it wouldn’t be ‘the end of the world’ if he left Chelsea this summer. On Friday he revealed that he will make his own decision about his future once this season is over.
Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Nottingham Forest, the 52-year-old Argentinian says his stay at Stamford Bridge does not solely depend on whether the hierarchy are happy with him. It will also depend on whether he is happy with it and whether he also has to draw a conclusion.
Pochettino will sit down with his bosses at the end of the season, but opened the door to walking away himself during his pre-Forest press conference this summer.
“If we are happy, perfect,” Pochettino said. ‘But it’s not just when the owners are happy or the sporting directors are happy. If we are happy, you should also ask us because maybe we are not happy and we accept the situation and we have to break up.
‘It won’t be the first time that the technical staff decides not to continue at the end of the season. But at this point it’s always the opposite way.

‘It’s always the owners or the sporting directors. They can say tomorrow. Maybe I can say, ‘I want to leave.’ It is two parties making a decision. Because Chelsea aren’t happy or the owners aren’t happy or the sporting directors aren’t happy.
“Maybe we’re not happy because we arrive here with a job and in the end it didn’t happen what we expected.
‘Maybe we’re not happy. I’m not saying I’m not happy, but it’s always one side and the other. It is not a problem. It won’t be the end of the world.’
Pochettino signed a two-year contract with the option of a third year when he joined Chelsea. No date has been set for his summer meeting with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart and possibly owners’ representatives, but it is expected it will happen in the days after their final game against Bournemouth.
Chelsea still have three games to go in which they can secure European football against Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth.
