Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has praised Graham Potter for choosing ‘seven young English players’ for Chelsea’s impressive 3-0 Champions League win over AC Milan.
Reece James, Gareth Southgate’s favorite right-back, scored the Blues’ last goal and caused trouble for Milan all night long with his connection to Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling.
There was more English talent on the pitch, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ben Chilwell, Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, James, Mount and Sterling all taking to the field.

Potter’s side came under pressure in the game after losing their first UCL game, but are now second in the group on goal difference and looking much more comfortable.
Speaking of BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “There is a lot of pressure because they didn’t start well. At home you have to get the points and they could even make subs.
‘Potter has seven young English players on the pitch which bodes well and all the right buttons are being pressed. Momentum is key and there is something in the crowd now. It is a step in the right direction.

He also commented on a ‘player-fan connection’ at Stamford Bridge
“There is a connection between players and fans again. The manager or captain may have seen something. The class gap between Italian and English football, it goes in cycles.’
Fellow expert Joe Cole added: ‘The number of English players with an English coach at the top bodes well. That was so routine. If you do that with them, you show that it’s the right direction.’
Chelsea will play in the Champions League next week at the San Siro, where Milan will have to be much better than at Stamford Bridge if they are to get anything out of the game.
