Tech’s territorial ambitions

Civil society activists often complain about gated communities (GCs). GC residents are self-isolating and providing infrastructure and amenities far beyond those of surrounding neighborhoods. This includes gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts, squash courts, etc., in addition to 24×7 security, water, electricity and internet. The contrasts are stunning in places like Gurugram, where it is common to see buffaloes being milked on a dirt road outside the gates of a WG with a layout transplanted straight from Florida.

GCs have low voter turnout. Once you have your own power, water and security installed, you won’t have to interact much with the locals
