Amazon Q is now open to all employees who want to build an AI chatbot for their work
Amazon Web Services has unveiled the next part of its plan to redefine software development with the launch of Amazon Q, a new generative AI assistant.
Amazon Q is designed to support developers and businesses in streamlining processes, improving productivity, and unlocking new opportunities to innovate.
Like other AI tools already available from the likes of GitHub and other major industry players, AWS hopes its Q-branded chatbot can help alleviate many of the challenges developers face during the software development processes.
AWS launches new Amazon Q chatbot for developers
Two somewhat separate use cases exist for Amazon Q – the first, for developers, promises to give employees more time to spend on meaningful work. The announcement cites a study showing that developers currently spend less than a third of their time coding, while most of their remaining time is spent performing tedious and repetitive tasks.
Early adopters, customers and partners of Amazon Q include Blackberry, BT Group, GitLab and Toyota.
In addition to offering “best-in-class” vulnerability scanning and remediation, Q is also designed to be an “expert” on AWS, and specifically a customer’s AWS environment, making it an attractive GenAI tool is for anyone who already uses Amazon’s cloud computing services. .
The second implementation, designed for more general business purposes, would integrate with more data sources than other GenAI assistants, including Atlassian, Gmail, Salesforce, and Slack.
