Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson didn’t take too kindly to New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox’s chatter and decided to shoot him cheaply in their Stanley Cup Playoff game.

Near the end of the first period, with New York in control, center Vincent Trocheck was able to score a goal that broke the tie and gave the Rangers a 2–1 lead.

While skating to celebrate with his teammates, Fox looked in Wilson’s direction. It’s not clear whether he said anything to his counterpart in Washington, but either way, Wilson was objecting to something.

He grabbed Fox as he skated by and hit Fox with his left hand near Fox’s face.

The rest of the Rangers, who were celebrating behind the goal, skated over to their teammate and a scrum ensued.

Wilson still had his arm around Fox as the Rangers tried to pry the enforcer away from their star defenseman.

Eventually the two were separated – with Fox looking disheveled as he skated away.

Wilson received a two-minute minor penalty for rough behavior that the Home Capitals fans did not take well.

Ultimately, the Caps tied the game with a goal from Hendrix Lapierre in the second period.

But Rangers, who dominated throughout, closed out the series with goals from Artemi Panarin and Jack Roslovic in the third period.

That won New York the series as they defeated Washington four games to none and now await their next opponent in the second round.

The Rangers will play the winner of the series between the Carolina Hurricanes and the New York Islanders. Carolina leads that series from three games to one, with game five bringing a 7:30ET puck drop on Tuesday night.
