This is when Washington State’s Jaden Hicks found out he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs while watching the 2024 NFL Draft.

In the fourth round of this year’s draft, reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City announced they selected Hicks with the 133rd overall pick.

The 6-foot-2 safety, who recorded 79 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 12 starts for the Cougars last season, was surrounded by his family when he received the all-important phone call from the Chiefs.

A heartwarming video shared by the team shows for the first time how Hicks answers the call while looking at the draft, with his family sitting nearby in anticipation.

Then he hangs up the phone and simply says, “The Chiefs.”

His family was thrilled when they heard of his move to Kansas City. They jumped out of their seats and hugged him to celebrate his draft selection from back-to-back Super Bowl winners.

Hicks was ranked by some experts as the No. 1 safety in the class ahead of this week’s NFL Draft.

He was a durable player for Washington State, appearing in each of their 26 games over the past two seasons. That stretch included 23 consecutive starts to end his career at Pullman.

The former Cougars safety was a three-star recruit out of Las Vegas before heading to Washington and eventually being named to the All-Pac-12 honorable mention team.

At 211 pounds, Hicks is expected to bring plenty of aggression and intensity to Kansas City’s secondary.

The Chiefs want to become the first team in history to achieve an unprecedented three-peat by winning a third straight Super Bowl next season.
