When will we hear more about Grand Theft Auto 6?
The last we heard about GTA 6 came late last year in the form of the game’s first proper trailer. As for future announcements, we’ll probably have to wait until further into 2024 for more details. For now, there is no official word from Rockstar Games.
GTA6 is easily one of the most highly anticipated games ever, with its predecessor still dominating the sales figures. Luckily, we now know quite a bit about the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, including where it will take place and approximately when it will be released.
As for the upcoming games, GTA6 it looks like it might offer the most detailed open world we’ve seen yet, if Rockstar Games follows up on the success of Grand Theft Auto 5, that is. We now know that this time we are returning to Vice City, a fact that means GTA6‘s story missions could reference some very iconic films. One thing is certain: the game already looks very impressive graphically.
While we wait for more information about Grand Theft Auto 6, everything that has been confirmed so far can be found in this article. As new details are announced, we will be sure to update this page. GTA 6 release window and platforms
GTA6 launching sometime in 2025 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. This was revealed in the game’s first trailer. Other than a year, we have no other details on when the game will be released. We’ll have to wait for more information. In terms of a GTA 6 PC release, an ex-Rockstar developer has explained why GTA 6 won’t be coming to PC at launch: ‘This stuff is very complicated’

GTA6 was announced on February 4, 2022 via the Tweet embedded above. Ultimately, this was just confirmation that Rockstar was indeed working on it GTA6and no other details were given other than the fact that the game was in active development.
GTA 6 trailer
The GTA 6 trailer was revealed by Rockstar on December 4, 2023, after it was leaked online. The trailer was initially scheduled to release the next day, but timelines were pushed back. You can check it out above, in all its sun-drenched glory. It lasts 91 seconds and introduces us to Lucia, one of the protagonists of GTA 6. You also get some beautiful shots of Vice City’s beaches, bars and even an alligator
What song is used in the GTA 6 trailer?
Now that we have the first GTA 6 trailer, we can delve deeper into what it all means. The song playing over it is Tom Petty’s Love is a Long Road. This teases the themes of the game, which clearly focuses on a couple in love and on the run. Heartbreak and tragedy may be on the cards here, as well as a little romance among all the shootouts.
GTA 6 is set in Vice City
We know that now GTA6 is set in the state of Leonida, which includes Vice City and beyond. In a newswire post published shortly after the trailer, Rockstar describes the area as “the largest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.” We see quite a few shots of Vice City in the debut trailer, but it’s still unclear if other areas will be included at launch.
a Bloomberg report published in 2022 claims that GTA6‘s map was initially much larger, covering areas in both North and South America. Apparently this was cut during development, with Rockstar Games shifting and narrowing its focus to Vice City and the surrounding areas. These are likely the swamps and bridges we see in the trailer, loosely based on the Florida Keys.
While this smaller launch map may sound disappointing at first, it’s worth delving into other parts of the aforementioned report. In particular the fact that GTA6‘s map may not remain static after launch. Apparently Rockstar plans to update the map with more cities and interior locations post-release, mainly to give developers more breathing room and to reduce overtime while GTA6 it is being worked on. According to Bloomberg, new missions and new map areas will be added “regularly.”
GTA 6 story and playable characters
Rockstar Games has unveiled the first trailer for GTA6 on December 4, 2023. In it we meet Lucia, one of the main characters of GTA6. According to the leaked gameplay that appeared online in early 2023, GTA6 could feature two playable protagonists. This is supported by what is shown in the trailer, in which Lucia and her partner, currently unnamed, commit robberies together.
As for the story, GTA6 looks set to follow the couple as they try to get a big score. Other than that, we know it will be set in and around Vice City, and that Lucia will be locked up at one point or another. We’ll have to wait to hear more about whether that’s the case GTA6 does indeed give players control over Lucia and her partner, but for now we know a lot more about Lucia than the unnamed man shown in the trailer. Considering that they both appear on the game’s main title card, it’s a good bet that there are indeed two playable characters.

In an interview with GI.biz (via IGN), industry analyst Mat Piscatella noted that GTA 6 will be an extremely important release not just for Rockstar, but for the industry as a whole: “There’s probably never been anything more important to ever release in the industry, so no pressure .’

Finally, Rockstar Games has unveiled the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 622 months after the developer officially announced the game’s development – and notably, a day earlier than the reveal was supposed to take place.
Rockstar fixes GTA 6 leak
Rockstar Games has formally confirmed that the GTA6 the leak that occurred in September 2022 was real. Releasing a statement via Tweet, the team advised that this contained “early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto”. While they did not comment on specific details discovered in the leak, the team said it is “extremely disappointed that details of our next game are being shared in this way.”
Crucially, Rockstar’s statement advised that the leak would not cause any delays, stating that “we do not expect any disruption to our live gaming services, nor any long-term impact on the development of our ongoing projects.” An official update for this next game is promised “when it’s ready.”
