Bette Midler pitches herself to guest star on ABC’s Abbott Elementary as the mother of Lisa Ann Walter’s Melissa Schemmenti

Bette Midler started her week with a rather unique pitch to her followers on X, asking them to help her land a guest role on ABC’s Abbott Elementary.
Midler, 78, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday morning and asked her 2 million followers to help her connect with Abbott Elementary star/creator Quinta Brunson.
“Since I now use this website to pitch myself on TV shows, I would also like to play Melissa Schemmenti’s mother on Abbott Elementary,” she said, referring to Lisa Ann Walter’s character.
Midler added in the tweet, “If you see Quinta Brunson, please tell her,” as Brunson is no longer active on X, although she is still verified on Instagram.
One fan on Instagram – @sdvicto – copied and pasted Midler’s tweet for Brunson to see, although it is unclear at this time whether she did so.

Midler’s X-post has received more than 23,000 likes and more than 2,000 retweets, with many voicing their support in the comments.
Walter’s character Schemmenti is from the south side of Philadelphia, and while many of her relatives are mentioned in the show, her mother is not.
Schemmenti’s sister Kristin Marie (Laura Weedman) has appeared in three episodes of the show in the second season.
The only other member of the Schemmenti family to appear at Abbott Elementary is Melissa’s cousin Vinny Romano (Brian Scolaro), in the season 2 episode New Tech.
Abbott Elementary began its third season in February, months after the end of the writers and actors strikes.
It was picked up for a fourth season back in February, just before the season 3 premiere, so it’s possible Midler could come on board in season 4.
The series follows a group of teachers, administrators and staff at the title school in Philadelphia.
Brunson stars as Janine Teagues as she is the creator and executive producer of the hit ABC sitcom.
Walter’s character Schemmenti is from the south side of Philadelphia, and while many of her relatives have been mentioned in the show, her mother has not.

The cast also includes Janelle James (Ava Coleman), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Barbara Howard), Tyler Jame Williams (Gregory Eddie), Chris Perfetti (Jacob Hill) and William Stanford Davis (Mr. Johnson).
The show is currently on a short hiatus until Wednesday, May 1, with the season ending with four consecutive episodes and ending on Wednesday, May 22.
Midler is from the 2023 film Sitting In Bars With Cake starring Yara Shahidi and Ron Livingston.
She will next be seen in The Fabulous Four starring Susan Sarandon, Bruce Greenwood, Megan Mullally and Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph.
