LaLiga came under fire during the El Clasico showdown between Barcelona and Real Madrid on Sunday for lacking goal-line technology and president Javier Tebas has hit back.

The match at the Bernabéu was tied at 1-1 when Lamine Yamal thought he had given the Catalans the lead with a kick from a corner.

His effort appeared to have beaten goalkeeper Andriy Lunin before he managed to clear the ball away from goal.

However, the referee allowed play to continue and the VAR could not confirm whether the line had indeed been crossed.

Leagues such as the Premier League now have the technology to resolve such incidents within seconds, with referees receiving a signal on their watch telling them whether it has been a goal or not.

Yet such technology does not exist in the Spanish top flight, with El Larguero reporting that La Liga president Javier Tebas does not want to pay the ‘£2.6 million’ it costs.

Fans couldn’t believe Yamal’s strike wasn’t given as a goal, but Tebas was quick to defend the lack of technology in his league.

The LaLiga president posted a series of articles about times when goal-line technology has made mistakes.

Tebas wrote ‘no comment’ on the images, in a clear response to the criticism.

It was a precious moment for Barcelona, who lost the match thanks to another late winner from Jude Bellingham.
