Harvey Elliott in credit with Jurgen Klopp for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s  magic free-kick which started Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Fulham

Harvey Elliott should get much of the credit for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s sublime free-kick during Liverpool’s victory over Fulham after confusing the home side’s defensive wall, according to boss Jurgen Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold scored a fantastic goal to open the scoring for Liverpool, before Timothy Castagne equalized shortly before half-time. The Reds ended their four-match wait for an open goal when Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota secured victory after half-time.

And Klopp says Elliott sowed doubt in the minds of Fulham defenders when he tried to poke a set-piece under the wall minutes before Alexander-Arnold’s goal.

“Harvey has 10 to 15 percent of the target because we analyzed Fulham and saw the wall jumps, so Harvey told him to go under,” said Klopp, who now has just five Liverpool games remaining.

‘Obviously they weren’t really jumping, just a little bit so Harvey couldn’t go through with it. The crowd laughed. But I’m sure next time the wall might not jump as high as usual.’

Alexander-Arnold took advantage of this and launched a lavish attack on the wall. The full-back added: “The second (free-kick) was always going to be mine. We did our analysis yesterday and we saw that they jumped quite a bit. Harvey had the right idea, just not the execution.

‘The technique I use generates the current itself. I just try to guide it and make it difficult for the goalkeeper. You get one chance in a game to perform it for the team. Practice, practice, practice and it pays off on days like today.

‘It will be a difficult week with two more away games (Everton and West Ham), but we are confident that if we can replicate what we did today we should be able to get results. We now need to expect five wins out of five to even have a chance of lifting silverware in a few weeks’ time.”
