Heartbreaking reason behind Tom Trbojevic’s ‘that’s gold’ try celebration after he scored against Gold Coast Titans
- Tom Trbojevic’s try party was a message to a sick youngster
- Mona Vale Raiders junior player Beau is battling stage 4 cancer
- Trbojevic said if he scored, he would give Beau a thumbs up
The heartbreaking reason behind Tom Trbojevic’s ‘that’s gold’ thumbs up for Manly has been revealed in a new social media post.
The Manly Sea Eagles handed the Titans an embarrassing 34-30 defeat at the CBUS Super Stadium on Saturday evening.
Tom Trbojevic had an excellent game with a double in the first half, which could have been a hat-trick had it not been for a forward pass.
Trbojevic, who staked his claim for an Origin jersey, celebrated his second try with a thumbs-up, “that’s gold”, which has since been explained as a special tribute to a brave young footballer battling cancer.
Mona Vale Raiders football club thanked Tom Trbojevic for his festive gesture to ill junior member Beau, who is battling cancer
“Great to see Tom giving Beau the thumbs up, just like he told Beau he would,” the Mona Vale Raiders football club wrote on their Instagram page.
“Continue the good fight against cancer, Beau.”
Beau, who plays for the Under 12s, recently received the devastating news that he had stage 4 cancer and is now undergoing chemotherapy.
“Beau is such a talented footballer, a great teammate and a great friend and a huge Manly Sea Eagles fan,” the club said.
‘His father Scott is always present at training and competitions and often provides the BBQ in the oval.
Two weeks ago Beau was at training and played in our test match a few weeks ago. When you watch this man play football, you never know what his body is going through inside.”
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help the family in any way possible.
Although Manly looked dangerous offensively, their defense against the lowest scoring team in the league could do with some improvement.

“I think Manly have always been a team that knows they can always score points, but in terms of having to win a game 34-30 against a team at the bottom of the ladder, that’s not a good sign for Manly,” said Cooper Cronk. on Fox League.
“You can’t do that against teams in the top four.”
Male skipper Daly Cherry-Evans shared a similar view to Cronk.
“There’s nothing to be proud of when it comes to our performance, but we’ll just take the two points and get back to Brookvale,” he said.
