But both were found guilty of all charges by a Queensland Supreme Court jury on Friday.
Mrs Hili shouted ‘no’ when her husband was found guilty and sobbed as her own guilty verdicts were read out.
The court had previously heard how two 15-year-old girls had attended a party at the couple’s home on a sprawling estate in the Gold Coast area in December 2021.
Crown prosecutor Melissa Wilson told the court that Mr Hili offered the girls a cannabis joint and they smoked it, causing one of them to become unwell after also drinking alcohol.
After the sick girl vomited, she was taken downstairs to lie down.
The court heard Mr Hili began asking the other girl ‘inappropriate’ questions about whether she was bisexual and how old she was.
She “responded that she was only 15 and not bisexual,” Wilson told the court.
The couple was taken into custody and will be sentenced on June 20
The girl was then led downstairs, thinking she was being taken to her friend, but found herself in the couple’s bedroom, the court heard.
The girl said in evidence that she fainted and woke up to find herself naked and being sexually assaulted by Mr. Hili, while Ms. Hili was stroking her hair.
The victim claimed she passed out again and later woke up to find Ms. Hili sexually assaulting her while the Hilis were having sex. There was also a pornographic film playing in the room, she claimed.
Ms Hili has denied sexually abusing the girl or being present when she was sexually abused.
The couple was taken into custody and will be sentenced on June 20.
