Jamie Carragher believes that Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper deserves more time, despite the poor start to the Premier League season.
Forest is bottom of the Premier League in goal difference after being hammered 4-0 by Leicester City in the East Midlands derby at King Power Stadium.
The loss to the Foxes was their sixth of the season and the fifth in a row since they slipped off the table. The newly promoted squad won just once in the league all season and that came back in August against West Ham in their first game this season at City Ground.
Forest manager Steve Cooper is under pressure after the club’s poor start to the season
The poor form has led to questioning Cooper’s future, with the belief that a replacement could turn their fortunes around and keep them in the Premier League after this season.
The club also came under fire after signing more than 20 players in the summer transfer window, including former Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard and Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
However, Carragher believes the Welsh manager deserves more time at the helm following his previous work at the club.
He said on Sky Sports: “There will be a lot of questions because of the expenditure. You expect a team to come and fight, but with the money they’ve spent, there can be an expectation.

Jamie Carragher thinks Cooper should be given more time to turn things around at Forest
But the players they brought in, some of them have PL pedigree and he said he doesn’t know them yet but he deserves longer when you consider what he’s done for them, 23 years out of the league they were at the bottom of the league competition, it wasn’t just to lift them.
“You would think he’s a fan, he embraced the legendary figures and he has a real connection that I don’t think will be broken.
“The fans won’t be calling him to go because they know more than anyone. Only the owner will know, but I want him to have more time.
‘It is a unique situation, but sooner or later something has to change.’
Cooper led Forest to Play off glory and back to the Premier League for the first time 23 years
Cooper was appointed Forest manager last season after Chris Hughton was fired with the championship club bottom. The Welshman managed to set the record straight and lead them through the play-offs to the Premier League despite all odds, ending the club’s 23-year wait for their return to the top division in England .
Cooper also helped the club on a brilliant FA Cup run, in which they managed to knock out Premier League clubs Arsenal and Leicester City before leaving the competition for Liverpool.
Former Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton manager Rafa Benitez has been touted as an option to replace Cooper in the Forest hot-seat. The ex-Real Madrid manager has been out of work since he left the Toffees in January this year.
