Trans runner demolishes female competitors in her 200m heat at high school competition (… but still finishes in 2nd place overall)

A transgender high school sophomore has sparked online outrage after crushing her competition in a high school track and field meet.

The teen competed in the Girls 200 Meters Varsity at the Sherwood Need for Speed Classic in Sherwood, Oregon on Saturday.

Footage of the race shows her crossing the finish line while the competitors follow en masse a few seconds later. The teenager easily won that heat, but finished second overall among more than 60 girls who clocked a time in the 200 meters.

High school student McDaniel also competed in races alongside her teammates, finishing seventh in the 4×100 relay and eighth in the 4×400 relay.

The participation of trans athletes in school sports has proven to be a controversial issue, sparking backlash and legal backlash.

The controversy erupted in February 2023 after a high school basketball player in Massachusetts – described as “over 6 feet tall” with “facial hair” – threw an opposing player to the ground.

Video of the incident, which showed the other student writhing in pain, quickly spread online.

According to school officials, three students from the opposing team from Collegiate Charter School of Lowell were injured during the game.

The team ultimately chose to give up when other players expressed their fears of getting injured and not being able to compete in the upcoming playoffs.

Under Massachusetts state law, a player cannot be excluded from a team based on gender identity. However, 24 other states have banned transgender students from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity.

This includes Florida, where Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ 2021 legislation bans transgender women from playing on public school teams designed for athletes born as girls.

“In Florida, girls will play girls’ sports and boys will play boys’ sports,” DeSantis said as he signed the bill. “We’re going to make sure that’s the reality.”

The state has implemented this ruling. After the Florida High School Athletic Association discovered a transgender student was playing on a female volleyball team Monarch High School was fined $16,500.
