Newcastle stars Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn treat young deaf fans with kickabout… before confirming the supporters will be mascots for the Magpies clash with Tottenham
Newcastle stars Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn have invited young deaf fans to act as mascots for their upcoming Premier League match against Tottenham.
Trippier and Burn confirmed the news with supporters of the NU Foundation, with the pair participating in a kickabout.
“For the game against Tottenham you will all be mascots,” Burn said. “So you can walk out with us ahead of the crowd.”
The invitation to be a mascot followed Newcastle confirming a special one-off kit for Saturday’s match against Tottenham during the televised lunchtime kick-off.
The kit is sponsored by the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) in an effort to improve the matchday experience for deaf fans.

As exclusively revealed by Mail Sport last week, shirt sponsors Sela have donated the front of their shirt to charity for the match against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.
The new shirts, which will be worn by fans and mascots who are deaf or hearing impaired during Saturday’s match against Tottenham at St James’ Park, feature haptic technology, which creates the experience of stadium sound by applying vibrations.
This will allow deaf supporters to experience the atmosphere at St. James’ Park for the first time.
‘To walk outside [RNID] shirts is special, and we had a nice chat with the kids too,” Trippier said.
‘The children taught us how to celebrate a goal, so be careful. I’ll probably get a few more before the end of the season,” Burn added.
One of the young people said of the occasion: ‘I was so happy to see Kieran and Dan, it’s the best day of my life.’
Sela has committed to providing the technology for all future Newcastle home games.
The Saudi Arabia-based events company, which signed a £25m-per-season deal with the Magpies last year, has pledged to donate sponsorship money from Saturday’s match to RNID.

The RNID branding will be seen around the stadium and on the big screen to raise awareness of the charity.
The charity, which helps people across the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus, has welcomed Sela and Newcastle’s support.
‘It’s absolutely incredible for us to put the RNID logo on the shirt. We are very grateful to Sela and Newcastle for doing this,” said Teri Devine, RNID Associate Director of Inclusion.
‘It’s absolutely fantastic that the players take the time to meet the children and actually see the barriers that deaf children face.’
Saturday’s match promises to be a key match for both teams in their quest for European football next season.

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last three games and are currently eighth, but just two points behind Manchester United in sixth.
Tottenham are looking forward to a return to the Champions League and can take another step towards securing their place in next season’s competition with a win on the road.
The match at St. James’ Park was Newcastle’s first under their Saudi Arabian owners in 2021, with the Magpies beating Spurs 6-1 last season on their way to Champions League qualification.
