Chelsea ‘agree deal with Lyon boss Sonia Bompastor’ to succeed USWNT-bound Emma Hayes this summer

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal with Lyon boss Sonia Bompastor to succeed the outgoing Emma Hayes at the end of the season.
The Blues are looking for a replacement for Hayes after she announced she would leave the club in the summer to become the new head coach of the US women’s national team.
According to the TelegraphChelsea have now completed a deal for Bompastor and her assistant Camille Abily to join the club this summer.
Compensation has reportedly been agreed with the French side, with Bompastor’s contract running until 2025.

Bompastor has been in charge of Lyon since 2021, after succeeding the dismissed Jean-Luc Vasseur.
The former France international was promoted from her role in the club’s youth academy.
Her first season was rewarded when Lyon won an excellent double consisting of the Division 1 Feminine and the Women’s Champions League, where the club defeated Barcelona in the final.
Bompastor’s attacking philosophy has led to Lyon becoming one of the most feared women’s teams, having previously won the league with an unbeaten record during her first full season in charge.
The 43-year-old has led the club to the French title in the past two seasons, as well as the Coupe de France in 2023.
Bompastor has won the Women’s Champions League as a player and as a manager
She is the only female head coach to win the Women’s Champions League in the past fifteen years.
Bompastor’s Lyon side defeated Barcelona 3-1 in the 2022 final in Turin.
Lyon will take on rivals PSG in the all-French semi-final of the Women’s Champions League this month, with the record winners seeking a ninth title.
Bompastor could face her future employers, while Chelsea could face Barcelona in the second semi-final.
