Sky is DOWN: Hundreds of users are reporting an internet outage as the service undergoes planned maintenance
- Sky last night warned of ‘essential maintenance’ leading to the loss of broadband
- But even after maintenance was required, end customers still reported problems
It’s one of the most popular broadband networks in Britain, but it appears Sky is experiencing problems this morning
According to Down Detector, more than 700 customers across the country have been affected by an outage since around 6am BST today.
Sky already said it would be carrying out ‘essential maintenance’, which would result in an ‘intermittent or complete loss of broadband’ between midnight and 6am.
But customers are still reporting problems, and many are taking to X (Twitter) to complain.
One frustrated user wrote: ‘what’s the score? No sky broadband/wifi in the Preston area since early hours. The teenagers will wake up at some point and if it isn’t resolved, the Hunger Games will change.”
It’s one of the most popular networks in Britain, but it looks like Sky is having trouble this morning
According to Down Detector, the issues escalated around 6am BST and are affecting users across the country
Of those who reported problems, 93 percent said it was their internet, four percent their phone and three percent a “total blackout,” according to Down Detector.
Sky told MailOnline that this issue is affecting a ‘small number’ of customers in specific areas and is not a national issue.
A Sky Broadband spokesperson said: ‘We are aware of an issue affecting some Sky Broadband customers.
“We are working to get these affected customers back online as quickly as possible.”
Last night, Heaven confirmed The planned maintenance work would affect people in the Gloucestershire area and provided a list of affected towns and cities including Gloucester, Cirencester, Tetbury and Cricklade.
However, Down Detector says the problem is more widespread and Manchester, Bolton, Birmingham and parts of London are among the areas affected.
Customers from the North are also sharing their problems on X, with one saying: ‘is there a problem with sky broadband in Bury?’
One frustrated user wrote: ‘what’s the score? No sky broadband/wifi in the Preston area since early hours
Despite Sky suggesting the outage is only affecting Gloucestershire, this user in Bury reported having problems
‘I don’t seem to have an internet connection and I’ve tried disconnecting my hub etc but still nothing!! Has it been out since 4:30 am?’
Another user replied: “I just got on Twitter to see if it was just me.
‘We’re in Totty (Tottington) and it’s down, I’ve tried everything. Intended to start working (from home) at 7 am
On a discussion page on the Sky Community website, a Sky employee said: ‘We are aware of an outage at multiple exchanges affecting broadband and talk customers in the Bury area, including; Accrrington, Ashton on Ribble, Atherton, Catforth, Great Harwood, Kikham, Leigh, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Culceth, Bury and Culcheth.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but the right people are working on it.”
One customer replied: ‘We don’t have an internet connection. I’ve disconnected and restarted everything twice, but still no connection for the last two hours.’
Another simply said: ‘This is absolutely ridiculous.’
