A cisgender man claims he’s mistaken for a woman ‘every day’ thanks to his naturally ‘androgynous’ appearance, as he opens up about shocking encounters he’s had with strangers about his feminine appearance – some of whom have even questioned when he ‘passes over’.

Despite being born male and identifying as male, Lucas McCarson revealed that people regularly ask if he was born female or is a transgender woman.

The 21-year-old barista from Kentucky went viral after recounting a particularly striking conversation he had with a customer who thought he had transitioned — adding that the experience has made him more sympathetic to transgender people.

In the clip, which has been viewed nine million times, Lucas said the unnamed woman in question mistook him for a transgender woman before telling him: “God can bring you back from here.”

Lucas shared a video telling the story on TikTok, where he explained that the customer “looked him up and down,” grabbed his hands and said, “As a Christian woman, I am committed to letting you know that God has you in his hands .’

He explained, “Usually the kind of people who feel the need to say that, especially to people who look like me, usually belong to the hating genre.”

Not wanting to cause a scene and draw even more attention to himself, Lucas noted that he only thanked her because he wasn’t sure what else to say.

However, when the customer added, “Know that God can bring you back from this,” Lucas admitted he was a little taken aback – but not surprised.

The 21-year-old said the experience is normal for him, adding: ‘I’ve learned to go with my androgyny instead of feeling like it’s holding me back.

‘I am a balance of feminine and masculine, because there are no rules. I just happen to look the way I do and I consider that a blessing.

‘Every day I am mistaken for a woman, in almost everything I do. From high school onwards I was mistaken for a woman, even with short hair.

“I am blessed with my mother’s Filipino genes. I think I have the perfect combination of culturally feminine qualities.”

And despite not acting or dressing like a woman, he said strangers can’t help but highlight the 21-year-old’s feminine qualities.

He admitted: ‘No matter how I dress or act, people automatically assume I’m a woman. As a cis man who has never had to transition, I felt extremely insecure.

‘I have never identified with anything other than my assigned gender, so I often get angry when people look at me and often treat me as a woman/trans person.

‘I’ll wake up soon. I don’t dress up as a woman. I put on clothes. I don’t talk like a woman. I’m just talking.’

And while the incidents of being mistaken for a different gender are often disturbing, Lucas noted that it has helped him gain insight into how transgender people feel on a daily basis.

Lucas shared, “As a cisgender man, this gives me insight into how women and trans people are treated every day, and even though I don’t live my life as a woman, I understand how much respect women deserve and how much courage and resilience they have. to have.’

The clip, which has been viewed more than 1.6 million times so far, has attracted many messages from people who were shocked to hear that the 21-year-old is receiving so many comments from people wondering if he is a woman.
