Phil Foden revealed he suffered a ‘bad dead leg’ after the Man City star went off through injury in the 3-3 draw against Real Madrid.

The England forward scored a stunning goal in the second half but limped off with three minutes to go and was replaced by Julian Alvarez.

Foden was visibly frustrated when he was sent off on Tuesday night, but later admitted he was injured after a tough challenge.

When asked by TNT Sports if he was doing well, Foden said: ‘I hope so. “I’ve got a bit of a bad dead leg, but I’ve got some time to recover now, so hopefully I can.”

Manchester City will play Luton Town for the first time in the Premier League on Saturday, followed by the second leg against Real Madrid next Wednesday.

Asked about the injury, manager Pep Guardiola said: ‘It was a blow, he was grumpy with me because I made a substitution, he scored a fantastic goal.’

Federico Valverde rescued a late draw for Real after City had taken a 3-2 lead with sumptuous strikes from Foden and Josko Gvardiol after a Ruben Dias own goal and a Rodrygo strike gave the home side a half-time lead in the Spanish capital .

The raucous home crowd were stunned after two minutes when City midfielder Bernardo Silva took advantage of a one-man wall to fire a low free-kick from 40 yards just inside Andriy Lunin’s post to put the visitors ahead.

It was a schoolboy error from the Ukrainian, who appeared to have waited for a cross and left his right side unguarded. He got the ball in his hand, but couldn’t stop it.

Pep Guardiola told TNT Sports afterwards: ‘We were a bit nervous with the ball in the first half, we lost a lot of balls and when that happens (Real Madrid) they are so difficult to play against.

“In the second half we showed incredible personality in the way we played. Coming back from two or three would be difficult in Manchester.

‘We played calmly, two fantastic goals. At the end of Madrid, 77 minutes in this stadium, they can do it. We won 3-3 and we have to win the next match to reach the semi-finals.’
