Harry Kane was denied a fairytale return to north London as Arsenal hit back to claim a 2-2 draw in an exciting Champions League quarter-final first leg with Bayern Munich.

Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer claimed his 15th career goal in 20 games against the Gunners by converting a first-half penalty to put the German club on course for victory at a raucous Emirates Stadium.

But substitute Leandro Trossard left the match perfectly set up for next week’s second leg with a 76th-minute equalizer after Bukayo Saka’s early opener was canceled out by former Arsenal striker Serge Gnabry.

Six-time European champions Bayern almost grabbed a winner in the 90th minute when Kingsley Coman hit a post, while Saka was denied a penalty in extra time after a challenge from Manuel Neuer in a breathless final.

Mail Sport’s ISAAN KHAN takes a look at some of the things you might have missed.

Arsenal make the most of the absent Bayern fans

Arsenal were keen to make the most of an Emirates full of only home fans, as Bayern Munich were banned by UEFA from bringing supporters.

This was due to the use of fireworks by the German fans during the competition earlier this season. Posts saying ‘full house’, ‘all red’ and ‘wear red’ were circulated by the Gunners’ X account before kick-off to boost the atmosphere.

One of the instructions for fans was that they could buy a matchday program with a ‘special all-red cover’ that they could hold up to ‘generate a brilliant image’.

What further enhanced the atmosphere was a burst of fireworks that was set off by unknown persons outside the ground in the first half.

Extra security after ISIS threat

An announcement from a media outlet used by terrorist group ISIS threatening attacks on the four stadiums hosting the Champions League quarter-finals has caused understandable concern.

So much so that Arsenal and the Metropolitan Police have released statements to reassure supporters about their safety during Tuesday night’s match.

The police presence in the Emirates was visibly increased, a sign that these threats were not taken lightly.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said: “I would like to reassure the public that we have a robust policing plan in place for tonight’s match.”

Arsenal reaches milestone in the Champions League

This was not only Arsenal’s first appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals since 2010, but also the north London club’s 200th appearance in the competition.

It all started in September 1998 when they played against Lens.

Their three worst defeats all came against the same team: Bayern Munich, 5-1 each time.

Gunners on edge

Arsenal were alert to any supporters promoting their tickets to opposition fans.

On Monday, the club had threatened to ban anyone caught doing so.

Precautions include not selling tickets to new members who registered for the ballot after March 11, prior to the drawing of the final eight.

Before kick-off, the club also sent emails to fans suspected of selling their tickets, telling them to collect them from the box office with identification in hand.

Who else but Harry Kane?

Predictably, the mention of Harry Kane in the stadium tannoy provoked a flood of boos.

Former Spurs teammate Eric Dier put on a pair and ‘Are you Tottenham in disguise?’ was sung after Bukayo Saka’s opener.

But Kane silenced the crowd with his penalty marking his sixth goal at the Emirates – more than any other visiting player at the stadium.
