Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary went into hysterics on This Morning when they introduced an American couple who claimed to have a fight with a Welsh ghost.

In Tuesday’s episode of the ITV show, psychic Rebekah Carmichael and her ghost hunter friend Katharyn dive deep into their relationship with ghost Rupert.

Rupert is 6 feet tall, has blond hair and blue eyes and is said to have been a member of the British Army in pre-revolution America.

Rebekah said the relationship began one day in 2020 in North Carolina when Rupert approached her, concerned that she was walking alone, outside the house where he was said to have been in 1781. From there, she said, romance blossomed.

“There’s three in the bed, but one of them is dead,” Alison began as she introduced the pair, eliciting a chuckle from Dermot.

“Discover how a Welshman’s mind became the third wheel in an American couple’s relationship,” she added. “Yes, we mean it.”

Dermot said: “Just what might inspire you to go somewhere else,” before the duo burst into fits of laughter.

They returned after the break to talk to Rebekah and Katharyn about their unconventional family life.

Alison said: ‘In the United States, a married couple Rebekah Carmichael and Katharyn are waiting to tell us all about a mystery man who has become the third person in their relationship.’

“His name is Rupert, he’s from Wales and he’s a ghost,” said Dermot.

After meeting in 2020, Rebekah said a bond developed between her and Rupert over time. She later met Katharyn and the pair began a relationship.

But Rupert was already in the picture, so part of the dating phase for the couple involved Katharyn establishing the ghost’s existence.

Katharyn is a paranormal investigator known as a ghost hunter, and claimed that through a variety of techniques they managed to capture Rupert and convince her that he was real.

Rebekah said she considers the relationship to be polyamorous as she has ties to both, but it appears Katharyn and Rupert are strictly platonic.

Katharyn said she hangs out with Rupert alone, though, and they talk and joke about history and their upbringing.

Speaking to Rebekah, Alison and Dermot asked if Rupert had joined them for the interview as an extra seat seemed to have been made available.

“He is here in spirit,” she replied.

The couple also had AI create an image of what tall, blond, blue-eyed Rupert would look like if he could be seen with the naked eye – and the presenters noticed he bore a striking resemblance to Dr. This Morning’s Scott Miller.

As the segment closed, the hosts walked over to Dr. Scott and reiterated that he is Rupert’s doppelgänger.

“You definitely look like Rupert,” Alison joked, before Scott cheekily raised his eyebrows and asked if she and Dermot were interested in a throuple.

Viewers this morning took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on the American group.

They wrote: ‘Who has a 6ft 4in blond blue eyed dead grandpa called Rupert. I need to know if this man existed;” (sic)

‘To each their own, but that was the weirdest interview I’ve seen in a long time;’

“Surely they hire actors and come up with things like this? This pair is probably in the studio next door. This goes too far to be true;’

‘I just don’t understand how an 18th century Welsh man was called Rupert;’

‘These moments leave me speechless. Really and truly.’

Someone turned their attention to the presenters and said: ‘@AlisonHammond @radioleary I don’t know how you both just kept a straight face, you deserve an award.’
