Megyn Kelly lashes out at sports columnist who called female basketball coach a ‘national treasure’ for supporting transgender athletes competing in women’s games

Megyn Kelly has criticized USA Today sports columnist Nancy Armor and told her to shut up for showing support for transgender women in sports.

On the latest episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, the podcaster condemned Armor for her stance on transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.

“There’s a columnist at USA Today, Sports, Nancy Armour,” Kelly said, calling her a “repeat violator of women’s rights.”

“You are a damned national disgrace, ma’am, because you have a pen in a very large newspaper, which is getting smaller every day, and you too could stand up for women, but you’re too cowardly to do it,” Kelly said .

Armor recently called South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley a “national treasure” after she controversially claimed that transgender athletes “should be able to play” in women’s basketball.

A day after her women’s basketball team defeated NC State in the Final Four of March Madness en route to the national championship game against Iowa, Staley said anyone who considers themselves a woman should be free to play.

“I believe that if you’re a woman, you should play,” Staley said during the press conference.

“If you consider yourself a woman and want to play sports, or vice versa, then you should be able to play,” she added.

On The Megyn Kelly Show that aired Monday, Kelly played the clip from the conference before calling Staley, 53, a “complete turnout for the woman.”

“Staley is considered a legend in the women’s game. She reached a position of power. She got all her awards and accolades,” Kelly said, adding that Staley’s statement was “incredible.”

“She got all this praise and money. And when she gets the chance to do something for the women coming behind her, she pulls up the ladder and says: play against the men. That’s what she just did there.’

The host then directed her criticism at Armor, who tweeted after the game, praising Staley as “a damn national treasure.”

Armor’s X-post reads: ‘Dawn Staley is a divine national treasure. She is asked about transgender athletes by the usual suspects.

‘Says transgender women can play. She then puts the man on edge by saying she knows this will now cause a firestorm ahead of the biggest game, “and I’m okay with that,” the post continues.

Kelly hit back at Armor, saying, “You’re not a mother. You don’t have to worry about your daughter having to face a 6-foot man like me on the basketball court. So I don’t want to hear from you.’

Kelly then read Armor’s profile bio on X, in which she describes herself as an “aunt to the three greatest guys ever.”

“She doesn’t even have nieces,” Kelly said for her

“I don’t have all the answers, but I’m always looking for more,” Kelly continued reading Armor’s profile page.

“I’ve got one for you, Nancy. Shut the fuck up until you know what you’re talking about because girls get hurt by male basketball players pretending to be girls.

“I’ll take you to Massachusetts, where Lowell was playing a game, Lowell school was playing a game, and they had to call it off at the half because three players got hurt.

Kelly then played the viral clip of the Feb. 8 basketball game in which Collegiate Charter School of Lowell completed its game against KIPP Academy Lynn when a biological male player injured multiple females on the opposing team.

“Look at this girl in the black shirt going downstairs. That’s a guy who pretended to be a girl and took the ball from her. Look at her,” Kelly said angrily.

“Look at this, Nancy, Dawn! Watch this together! Watch as she writhes in pain after being injured by a boy pretending to be a girl.

Kelly’s outrage comes as the rules for transgender athletes have become a controversial issue in recent years, spilling over into politics and even the legal system.

In January 2022, the NCAA changed its policy to allow each sport’s rules to be determined by a national governing body, an international federation – or the 2015 Olympic standard.

That change came around the same time that transgender athlete Lia Thomas began competing in women’s swimming, even winning a national championship at the University of Pennsylvania.

In basketball, the NCAA currently follows the 2015 Olympic guidelines regarding an allowable threshold for testosterone (less than 10 nanomoles per liter). There are currently no known transgender women competing in Division I basketball.
