Netflix is canceling the beloved coming-of-age comedy series Everything Now, despite renewing season 2
Billed as the perfect new show for fans of Heart stopper And Sex educationNetflix’s teen drama Everything now has a respectable score of 82% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and 90% from viewers – but despite reports that a writers’ room was already in place for season two, the show has been canceled by Netflix.
The news broke in an interview with one of the show’s stars, Dylan Brady Movie updates. According to Brady, the show did not meet the numbers Netflix was hoping for. “We had some great ideas,” Brady said. “But we are at the mercy of the algorithm, I’m afraid.”
Looking at Netflix’s data for the most watched shows: Everything now has been in the top 10 for a week, but its 1.3 million views are overshadowed by series like Sex education season four, which was among the 10 most popular shows for six weeks with 13.4 million weekly views at one point. Fans of the show are devastated.

Why everything is over for Everything Now
Brady also had some thoughts on numbers-driven programming, saying that “television has historically worked one way…slow, consistent growth over several seasons, as opposed to this kind of mentality that we’re seeing now where it’s, ‘if it’s the If you don’t get 16 million views in the first 28 days, it’s not worth it for anyone.”
There are countless examples of the first: of cheers in the 1980s to more recent hits such as Arrested development, Schitt’s Creek and of course, Break badTV history is full of shows that took a while to find their audience. And as Brady says, “It’s really disheartening to see because I think there are also a lot of people who refuse to invest in a new show knowing that it might get canceled.”
It’s a shame that Everything now It won’t get a second season, but the first season is very worthwhile. Mashable called it “brilliant” and praised “its raw, authentic and surprisingly hilarious portrayal of the pitfalls and triumphs of teenage life under serious mental health themes”, while Decision maker gave it a ‘Stream It’ review and said that “Everything now is a charming teen drama with some serious emotional issues that underpin the adventures of a teenager who just wants to do teenage things”.
Season one of Everything now is still available on Netflix.
