The adorable moment when a baby hears his mother’s voice for the first time after being fitted with a hearing aid

This is the heartwarming moment when a baby with hearing problems hears his mother’s voice for the first time after being fitted with a hearing aid.

Three-month-old Albie Collins underwent a screening which revealed he had moderate hearing loss in both ears.

His parents, Amy and Matthew, both 29, were overwhelmed by their son’s reaction when he heard them talk for the first time since having his hearing aids fitted.

The moving images show the first moment in Albie’s life when he could finally listen clearly, as well as the first few days at home as he had to adapt to all the new sounds.

The couple from Liversedge, West Yorkshire, made the decision to fit their baby with hearing aids to help his language and learning abilities as he gets older.

The touching clip shows Albie, who has the same condition as his father Matthew, smiling as he stares into Amy’s eyes.

You can hear her say, “Hello beautiful! Hello beautiful boy. Are you a beautiful child? Can you hear mommy? Say Mom!’

The mother of two shared on TikTok last month the special moment when her son responded to her voice.

She said: ‘He initially failed the newborn hearing screening test at the hospital so he was referred to audiology for further assessment.

‘The doctors recommended that he wear hearing aids from an early age so that his speech and language are not affected as he grows older.

‘His father has the same hearing loss that was discovered when he was in primary school, so the link is likely due to genetics.

Hearing loss in babies

According to the NHS, hearing loss in babies can be harder to spot. It can also affect a child’s speech development and progress in school.

One to two in 1,000 babies are born with permanent hearing loss in one or both ears.

If babies are born in hospital, babies may be offered a newborn hearing test before they are discharged.

Otherwise, this will be done by a caregiver, care assistant or health visitor within the first few weeks.

The test should be done within the first 4 to 5 weeks, but can also be done at three months of age.

There is a government checklist what to look out for as your baby grows, to check whether he can hear.
