  • Fans have noticed similarities between Kobbie Mainoo’s strike and another goal
  • The ‘crazy parallels’ don’t just stop with the goal itself, but also with the environment

Manchester United fans have noticed an incredible similarity between Kobbie Mainoo’s strike against Liverpool and a Red Devils goal in 2009.

With the score at 1-1 after goals from Luis Diaz and Bruno Fernandes, Mainoo resigned.

The 18-year-old collected the ball on the half-turn before putting Man United ahead at Old Trafford.

While fans took to social media to praise the youngster for his goal, they also saw a ‘crazy parallel’ with a goal scored at Old Trafford in 2009.

The similarities in the goals extend beyond the action on the pitch, with fans even seeing what was happening from the billboards in both goals.

Despite being dominated by the visitors, Mainoo put Erik ten Hag’s team ahead in the second half with his excellent goal.

When the goal was scored, Man United fans took to social media to compare it to a previous goal scored.

‘Who did it better? Federico Macheda? Or Mainoo?’ one supporter asked.

The fan was referring to a goal scored by the Italian youngster in 2009, where he received the ball from Ryan Giggs before making an incredible turn in the penalty area and firing an off-balance shot into the top corner, sealing a dramatic 3-2 victory for United against Aston Villa.

“Reminiscent of Macheda, just wild,” said another fan.

However, it wasn’t just the goal itself that reminded fans of that Macheda strike.

One eagle-eyed supporter noticed the fact that the exact same advert was playing on the hoardings around Old Trafford fifteen years later.

The ‘Betfred’ advert with the exact same logo and color scheme was shown around the pitch the moment Mainoo scored his goal, the same advert during Macheda’s attack.

“The Betfred ad is a crazy parallel,” said one fan.

While the action on the pitch reminded fans of the goal 15 years ago, it is an incredible coincidence that the sign showed the same thing all these years later.
