The Ligue 1 game between Toulouse and Montpellier was brought to a halt after tear gas was thrown on the pitch by away supporters.
Toulouse was leading 4-1 when the incident occurred in 57 minutes, forcing players to cover their eyes and nose with their shirts.
As a result, the game was stopped almost immediately and players were led to the changing rooms by referee Jeremie Pignard.

After a 15-minute delay, the game was deemed safe to continue and play resumed again.
Montpellier pulled another one back 11 minutes later via Elye Wahi, but it proved only a consolation in a 4-2 loss.
Toulouse fell behind after seven minutes when Nicolas Cozza gave the visitors the lead. But they reacted strongly and led 3-1 after 31 minutes thanks to goals from Stijn Spierings, Zakaria Aboukhlal and Fare Chaibi.
Brecht Dejaegere added a fourth three minutes after the break before the game was interrupted due to the incident.
Toulouse went on to win 4-1 to come within a point of their opponents at the Ligue 1 table
Toulouse saw itself down to 10 men after the hour when Mikkel Desler was sent off for a second offense to be booked.
Despite the loss, Montpellier remains one point ahead of their opponents in the Ligue 1 standings.
Crowd issues were a concern in France this weekend. Nice supporters were not allowed to attend Paris and the match against Paris Saint-Germain at all.
