However, the World Population Review team noted that the number of sexual partners varies drastically by state due to local cultures and religious preferences.

For example, residents of Louisiana reported an average of 15.7 partners, while people in the largely Mormon state of Utah had only 2.6 partners.

‘The age at which a person loses his or her virginity can also influence the number of sexual partners he or she has. In the United States, on average, people lose their virginity at the age of seventeen,” the team wrote.

While the US and UK have similar dating app usage rates and similar cultural approaches to sex, Britain could have scored lower because the country has far fewer people.

Great Britain has a population of about 67 million, while the US has a population of over 330 million.

India finished last with an average of just three sexual partners. This may be due to the country’s very traditional dating practices, including arranged marriages.

In fact, a survey found that more than 93 percent of Indians have arranged marriages, which severely limit their sexual prospects.
