Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal virtually launched an experimental licensing module for 100 5G Labs at a workshop at IIT Madras on Friday, an official statement said.

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has granted about 1,500 experimental licenses for 5G laboratories since the launch of the 5G service testing and usage scenario testing program, the statement said.

“In an effort to smoothen the processes for 100 5G Labs in academic institutions in India, Minister (Telecom) Dr. Neeraj Mittal virtually launched the experimental licensing module for 100 5G Labs at a 5G workshop at IIT Madras.

The licenses will be issued in ‘self-declaration mode’ from DoT’s Saralsanchar portal through the National Single Window System (NSWS), the statement said.

“To date, around 1,500 licenses have been granted since the launch of this module on the Saralsanchar portal in July 2021. As per the current process, the applicant has to fill necessary details about the experiment to be conducted, a diagram of the setup, details of the equipment, frequency band, etc. to obtain the experimental license,” the statement said.
