Manchester United may still be nursing the hangover from Thursday night’s crushing defeat to Chelsea, but fans can take some solace in the fact that United are one of the least error-prone teams in the Premier League.

In fact, when it comes to mistakes leading to goals and shots, their opponents at Stamford Bridge are among the worst in the entire division.

Opta has compiled the statistics for errors that lead to shots and errors that lead to goals, which makes for interesting reading.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men top the standings for mistakes leading to shots, with as many as eighteen mistakes giving the opposition a sight of goal.

It was a defensive mix-up at Stamford Bridge last night, with Alejandro Garnacho sneaking in to get Erik ten Hag’s side back into the game, and it is one of five goals this season that have come through an error.

Compare that to Manchester United, who only conceded two goals due to errors from eight shots. Where only West Ham and Crystal Palace have better records than the Red Devils.

The Eagles have only committed five fouls that have led to shots so far, three of which were penalized.

Chelsea’s 18 errors are shared at the top by Tottenham, who have also made the same number of errors but one fewer has resulted in a goal, and Brighton – who currently have the worst record in the league.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men have made as many mistakes that have led to shots as the two London sides, but their mistakes have led to more goals than any other team.

Brighton have conceded eight goals, making them the most error-prone team in the competition based on combined figures. Although only seven teams have actually conceded more goals than the South Coast side this season.

However, they are still not the team that is punished the most when it comes to mistakes. Relegation-threatened Sheffield United has made nine mistakes, leading to goals from seventeen shots.

Those statistics are a complete surprise as the Blades have scored more goals than any other team this season, with 80, fourteen more than fellow strugglers Burnley.
