Since President Biden won the White House, the Bidens have hosted the annual Teachers of the Year event. But this will be the first time they honor them with a state dinner, similar to Michelle Obama hosting a Kids State Dinner when she was first lady.
Jill Biden, who teaches English and writing at a community college in Northern Virginia, said hosting the nation’s best teachers is “one of my favorite events at the White House.”
The state and national teacher of the year are selected by the Council of Chief State School Officers.
