Boone Jenner, the captain of NHL team Columbus Blue Jackets, and his wife Maggie announced in a heartbreaking post on social media that their son was stillborn.

The statement read: “We are at a loss for words. A pain like no other. Our son, Dawson Jenner, was stillborn on March 31, 2024.

“While this pain is nothing we have experienced before, it has also shown us the immense love we have to give.

As heartbroken as we are, we are incredibly grateful to be his parents and look forward to holding him again one day in heaven.

We are grateful and feel blessed for the outpouring of love and support from our family and friends.

“We appreciate everyone respecting our privacy as we navigate this extremely difficult time.”

Jenner, 30, married Maggie last July and they announced in December that they were expecting a child in May.

He played his entire NHL career with the Blue Jackets after being drafted in 2011 and becoming captain in 2021.

The Blue Jackets are last in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division and Jenner has not played for the team since late March.

There are only seven games left to play in the regular season, which ends on April 16.
