Fortitude Valley, Brisbane: Woman is found dead inside an apartment – as police take a man into custody

A woman has been found dead and a man is in custody after police were called to an apartment for a welfare check.

Her body was discovered at an address on Brunswick Street in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley about 1.30pm on Tuesday.

“Police forcibly entered a unit and found a deceased woman,” Inspector Karl Hahne told reporters.

“As a result of further investigations, a male individual is now at Valley Police Station to assist detectives with their inquiries.

“A crime scene has been declared so forensic investigators, detectives and our uniformed officers are currently on scene.”

The woman’s body was discovered at an address on Brunswick St, in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, about 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Detectives will be at the unit for several hours processing the scene and trying to determine exactly what happened.

Inspector Karl Hahne said there was no further threat to the community at this stage.

“We believe this threat is under control, so our investigation is focusing on finding out what happened today and in the days leading up to today,” he said.

Police are still trying to determine whether the woman can be formally identified and whether there is a relationship between her and the man in custody.
