Terrifying footage shows the moment an Oregan man avoided death by a second as a runaway saw blade raced across a parking lot towards him.
Shane Reimche entered the Quick Trip Market in Eugene on Thursday and closed the door behind him, only to see the knife lodge itself in the wall and shake the entire store.
The four-foot-long blade had become loose from a nearby construction site and was shooting towards Reimche, sliding faster and faster between parked cars in the parking lot.
“I mean, it obviously wasn’t my time, but it was probably the closest thing I’ve ever experienced,” Reimche told ABC News after the terrifying ordeal.
“I walked into the store here, I put my hand on the door and I heard a loud bang and yelling here on the corner,” he recalled.

The visible damage to the store shows the force with which the knife struck the wall
‘Just as a cloud of smoke appears and I see a man fall into the ditch, a four-foot knife coming towards me.
“At the last minute I was able to duck behind the counter,” he explained.
CCTV footage from the store shows Reimche looking back at the parking lot, seeing the knife coming towards him and quickly ducking to the left behind the store wall.
The surveillance footage also shows the walls shaking as the knife hit the wall, alarming those inside.
“We were standing behind the counter and all I heard was metal rolling down the street,” said Amit Grewa, the store’s owner, who was serving customers at the time.
‘(I thought) It was just wind, suddenly we heard a loud bang. It shook the whole store.”
The construction site where the knife escaped was dealing with a leaking gas valve at the intersection of Hilyard Street and East 24th Avenue.
The project was overseen by Northwest Natural Gas and two contractors, Brix Paving Northwest and Integrity Traffic.

“This incident involved a contractor on a NW Natural work site,” Northwest Natural Gas said in a statement.
“We are reviewing our partnership with this contractor and have temporarily removed the contractor from any other work for us. ‘
A contractor on site who witnessed the incident told ABC News that the runaway blade may have become loose due to a missing bolt or that there may have been operator error.
‘I was in tears all night. It was petrifying. I was shaking in the store,” Remche said the next day.
‘It took a while before I could talk. That thing was huge, you can see the hole in the wall.
Adding, “I’m grateful to be here. I thought maybe it’s my time, I don’t think I would have survived being touched by that thing.
