Maryland’s Key Bridge collapses after being struck by a container ship as astonishing footage shows the 9,000ft structure crashing into river

A 10,000-foot bridge in Maryland collapsed after being hit by a container ship.

Stunning footage shows the moment the ship plowed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, sending the colossal steel structure plunging into the Patapsco River, shortly before 1:30 a.m. Eastern.

There were no immediate reports of any casualties and it is not clear whether there was traffic on the bridge at the time of the disaster.

The Maryland Transportation Authority tweeted: “All lanes were closed in both directions due to an incident on the I-695 Key Bridge. Traffic is being diverted.’
