Elizabeth Banks and Succession star Matthew MacFadyen to lead Peacock romantic dramedy The Miniature Wife

Elizabeth Banks and Matthew MacFadyen prepare to play romantic opposites, and the height difference jokes write themselves.

Banks, 50 and 5ft5in, and MacFadyen, 49 and 6ft3in, have been cast in Peacock’s new romantic drama The Miniature Wife, for which they will also serve as executive producers.

Based on the short story by Manuel Gonzalez, the show is described as “a thought-provoking marital drama that explores the power (im)balances between spouses,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The pair play Lindy and Les, “who battle each other for power after a technological accident causes the ultimate relationship crisis.”

The Miniature Wife was created by showrunners and executive producers Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner of Boardwalk Empire.

In addition, Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer of Media Res serve as executive producers.

Peacock won the series in a bidding war with other streamers earlier this year and gave it a direct order.

The casting news comes after MacFadyen won his second Emmy Award and first Golden Globe for HBO’s follow-up.

He regularly stole the show as Tom Wambsgans, a Waystar executive and husband of heiress Shiv Roy.

MacFadyen’s next role marks his Marvel debut as Paradox in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The British actor will also star alongside Nicole Kidman and Gael García Bernal in the upcoming thriller Holland, Michigan.

Banks’ return to Peacock comes after she produced Bumper In Berlin, a 2022 TV offshoot of the Pitch Perfect films.

The Emmy Award nominee will next star in the Hollywood thriller Skincare, alongside Lewis Pullman, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Luis Gerardo Méndez and Nathan Fillion.

Although Banks will be in front of the camera for The Miniature Wife, she’s also been carving out a niche for herself behind it lately.

After directing short films and part of the omnibus film Movie 43, she made her feature film debut in 2015 with Pitch Perfect 2.

She has since helmed the 2019 reboot of Charlie’s Angels, which performed poorly at the box office, as well as last year’s surprise horror comedy Cocaine Bear.
