My husband suggested the ugliest name I’ve ever heard for our baby – and he refuses to compromise

An expectant mother is left scratching her head after her husband insisted on an ‘awkward’ baby name – and he refuses to change his mind.

The 36-year-old revealed the couple were overjoyed when they discovered their baby girl’s gender, but things became tense when they tried to discuss possible names.

‘When we first started talking about names, the ‘boy’s name’ was immediately chosen: Stuart Jr., after my husband. No problem, it is a classic name and has a family meaning. But for one girl it became dark,” the mother wrote on Reddit.

‘My husband suggested Stuarta. No, you won’t have a stroke. Apparently his logic is that since Stuart ends in ‘t’, we can just add an ‘a’ to make it feminine.”

The mother immediately hated the name, claiming it sounded like a furniture brand rather than a baby name, and that their daughter would have to “correct people endlessly.”

A father, Stuart, wants to name his daughter ‘Stuarta’ to honor himself

“But he’s adamant,” she explained. ‘My husband says it ‘honours’ him and gives our daughter a unique name.

“I’ve suggested alternatives: feminine names that share a similar sound or meaning to Stuart, names he’s said he’s liked in the past, even going all the way back to the drawing board. But he’s fixated on Stuarta.’

Although the mother loves her husband and wants to honor his family, he would never dream of naming her baby something as “ugly” as Stuarta.

‘I can’t imagine subjecting our daughter to a lifetime of uncomfortable looks and endless questions about her ‘unusual’ name. “I’m also concerned about possible bullying and the impact it could have on her self-confidence,” she said.

‘Am I the idiot who refuses to give in to Stuarta? Is there a compromise I haven’t considered?’ she asked.

Many were angry that the father was so insistent on naming the child after him, especially since the baby would likely have his last name as well.

“Why is he so selfish that he demands to have a daughter named after him?” someone asked.

“He gets to choose the name when he pushes the baby out. Why is only HE honored and not you?’ another wrote.

Some also shared their issues with the father’s chosen name.

“Stuarta sounds like something you need an ointment for,” one man said.

‘Stuarta is the kind of name that automatically corrects to Stuart. It’s also the kind of name that people will laugh at as soon as you tell them,” another commented.
