I’m a makeup artist – these are the mistakes that add 10 years to your face
A make-up artist has revealed three habits that can make you look instantly older.
English make-up artist Wayne Goss, who has four million YouTube followers, said using metallic eyeshadow, not using a primer and using the ‘wrong’ type of concealer can add ‘years’ to your face.
“The majority of us will use makeup to enhance our appearance, or even to cover up some of the wrinkles we’ve acquired over the years,” he said.
‘However, due to some mistakes, the makeup we wear can actually have the opposite effect and potentially add not one or two, but up to ten years to our faces.’

1. Avoid metallic eyeshadow
It may come as a shock to some that metallic eye shadows can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which is why matte is a better option.
‘Avoid metallic eyeshadow and opt for a matte one instead. Matte generally works best because it doesn’t draw attention to wrinkled areas or folds,” says Mr Goss.
‘Powder is also easier to apply over creams, especially as it is easier to blend with a good quality brush.’
Mr Goss also recommended never blending eyeshadow with your finger and only using good quality makeup brushes for best results.
2. The type of concealer
Using the wrong color concealer for your skin is another mistake Mr. Goss sees far too often, which can have the opposite effect and accentuate the creases around the eyes.
“Generally speaking, people can go too light around the eyes with their concealer, which can add years to your face, so it’s really important to get the color that matches your skin tone,” he said.
Cream concealer is always recommended over liquids, and Mr Goss suggests applying the product to the inner corner of the eye as this is ‘the one part of the eye that doesn’t crease’.

3. Always moisturize and use a primer
Many forget to moisturize their skin before applying makeup, causing the face to dry out more quickly throughout the day or night. This can increase the likelihood of fine lines developing and folds becoming visible.
Mr. Goss suggested looking at the ingredients of a moisturizer or primer and always prepping the face before applying makeup.
‘As we age, our skin naturally becomes drier. That’s why moisturizing ingredients are so important as you get older,” he said.
‘Look for makeup with ingredients like hyaluronic acid when you do your next makeup and skincare shopping to ensure your products keep your skin hydrated.’
A ‘large’ amount of moisturizer should be applied to ensure the skin remains hydrated.
‘Use a good primer before you apply your make-up so that it will act as a barrier between your skin and your make-up, ensuring that the make-up stays in place all day, rather than just in the nice places. lines,” Mr Goss added.
