Capcom acknowledges Dragon’s Dogma 2’s poor performance on PC and promises fixes
The long-awaited action RPG (RPG) sequel. Dragon dogma 2 hasn’t taken off so well on PC, with users on Steam reporting widespread performance issues and crashes during gameplay.
Developer Capcom has responded to the complaints in a new Steam post, in which it “sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused” and outlines a plan to address some of the most pressing issues. First and foremost, the team is actively investigating and fixing “critical issues such as crashes and freezes” that are causing players to be booted from the game. These will be addressed via patches at some point in the near future “starting with the highest priority ones.”
In addition to the crashes and freezes, some players have also suffered from poor framerates, especially in busy areas of the game’s vast open world. Capcom explains that this is due to the “large amount of CPU usage” offered by non-player character (NPC) simulation. It acknowledges that: “in certain situations where multiple characters appear simultaneously, CPU usage can be very high and can affect frame rate,” and that it is “exploring ways to improve performance in the future.”
Dragon dogma 2 players currently do not have the option to restart the game once they have started playing. The developers are “looking at adding a feature” to facilitate this. More details are yet to be announced. The post also provides a list of paid downloadable content (DLC) items available for purchase through the Steam Store.
We were big fans of it Dragon dogma 2 in our recent review, featuring Hardware Editor and long-time fan of the original The dogma of the dragon Rhys Wood awarded the game four and a half out of five stars, describing it as “challenging, exciting and consistently unpredictable.” While we’ve noticed some spotty performance on the PlayStation 5 version at times, it definitely seems like PC users have it significantly worse.
We’re hopeful that these patches will arrive relatively soon to fix the performance issues and allow players on every platform to enjoy one of the best RPGs in recent memory.
