Glamorous Louisiana Democrat chair comes under fire from over ONE HUNDRED progressive party members after she starred in TV ad that ‘teed her up for Governor role’

Louisiana Democrats will vote this weekend on whether to fire their party chairman.

Katie Bernhardt sparked anger among her party after widening statewide election losses last year after releasing a campaign video in which she appeared to position herself for a run for governor.

She now faces a challenge from the state political group Blue Reboot, which is organizing progressive candidates for elections to the State Central Committee.

The committee – with 105 people looking to stand for seats in the upcoming elections – is now trying to oust the mother of four and select a new party chairman.

Lynda Woolard, co-founder of Blue Reboot, explained the action against Bernhardt LA lighting: ‘We are in a deep hole that a large coalition must work to get out of.’

Woolard said the left-wing faction of Louisiana’s Democratic Party is frustrated by an approach that isn’t working in the traditionally Republican state.

In particular, she said, a lack of funding has hampered the party in recent years.

“People say, ‘I’ll never hear from the Democratic Party until there’s a candidate who wants my vote,’” Woolard said.

“And it’s very difficult to motivate voters when there are two weeks before the election and they don’t know who you are and haven’t heard of you before.”

The action against Bernhardt was sparked by their crushing losses in the 2023 statewide election.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Shawn Wilson was easily defeated by Republican Jeff Landry, and Democrats lost every statewide election.

The GOP also now has a supermajority in the state legislature after Democrats suffered significant losses.

While serving as the state’s DNC chair, she sparked backlash last year with her own apparent run for the governor’s mansion — with many in her party feeling her role was to promote other Democrats, not herself .

She fired off a shotgun and wondered how she would put Louisiana above national politics before, amid criticism, shortly afterward ending speculation about a plunge in the race.

“I am not currently running for governor or anything else,” Bernhardt said in a statement at the time. We are working to rebuild the Democratic Party of Louisiana, which starts by fielding strong, capable candidates for statewide office.”

Among her critics was Democratic state Rep. Travis Johnson, the party’s vice chairman, who accused her of “self-promotion.”

“The Democratic Party of Louisiana is at a standstill because its leader is not committed,” Johnson said at the time.

Bernhardt’s critics are also reportedly looking to expand diversity in the state Democratic Party, making white Democrats in Louisiana virtually non-existent.

While her possible ouster depends on this weekend’s vote, she already faces challenges.

Former state Rep. Randal Gaines, who currently serves on the Democratic National Committee, has announced his challenge, and LA Illuminator said Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis is also considering a run.

Lewis added that bringing in new voters will be crucial if Democrats are to have any chance.

“One of the challenges we’ve seen is that the majority are not white moderates, they’re nonvoters,” Lewis said.

“There is an important opportunity for the Democratic Party not to be seduced by what the pie is now, but to grow the pie.”
