Washington woman launches $350,000 case against city and its swimming pool over ban for objecting to trans women in women’s locker room

An elderly woman has filed a $350,000 lawsuit against her city of Washington and the YMCA for denying her access to a swimming pool after she objected to a trans woman’s use of the women’s locker room.

Julie Jaman, 82, says Port Townsend and the Olympic Peninsula YMCA has defamed her and unlawfully banned her from the center and is demanding compensation for the “emotional distress” resulting from the July 2022 incident.

Her attorney, Harmeet Dhillon, a GOP official who heads the Center for American Liberty, sent the city and its YMCA a notice this week. Complaint of 259 pagesurging them to pay and apologize or face legal action.

Jaman was kicked out of the swimming complex and banned after meeting Clementine Adams, a trans male-to-female YMCA employee, in the women’s locker rooms and asking her to leave.

The case highlights tensions between transgender activists, who say society should accept their chosen sexual identity, and women who want biological males banned from their dressing rooms.

“The city and YMCA’s unconstitutional actions are the result of the left’s blind loyalty to the political agenda of gender ideologues,” said Dhillon, a member of the Republican National Committee.

“Rather than listen to the legitimate concerns of a longtime patron and taxpayer about child safety, the city of Port Townsend and the YMCA silenced her and banned her for life without a shred of due process.”

City officials and the YMCA did not return DailyMail.com’s requests for comment.

In the letter, Jaman revealed new details about the incident, which led to an angry confrontation with Adams, other YMCA staff and police, leading to her ban and a series of high-profile protests.

“I was showering in the women’s locker room when I saw a man in a women’s swimsuit watching little girls undress. I was obliged to say something and ask for help,” Jaman said.

Since then, she has “suffered mafia-like attacks, public humiliation and widespread false reporting,” the 40-year community veteran said.

“If this had been the 17th century, I would have been burned at the stake,” she added

She now wants her “credibility restored,” she said.

Jaman says she was changing in the women’s locker room when she heard a “man’s voice.”

It came from Adams, who identifies as a woman, wears a feminine swimsuit and mentors two young girls.

“Jaman was alarmed by Adams’ presence in the women’s locker room and believed she might be a witness to a crime in progress,” the letter said.

She asked Adams if she had a penis, and was told it was “none of her business,” so she asked them to leave.

Jaman told a staff member at the pool and was told by YMCA aquatics manager Rowen DeLuna that trans women were allowed in the women’s changing areas and that she was “discriminating against” Adams.

She was told she was “banned from the pool forever” before DeLuna called the police.

A police incident report described Jaman as having an “emotional reaction” and “yelling.”

Jaman protested outside the pool later that month and raised her concerns at a city council meeting.

A #LetJulieSwim rally in support of Jaman the following month was overrun by transgender rights activists.

The city and YMCA later alleged that Jaman had exhibited a “pattern of disrespectful behavior” but did not identify the nature of this alleged misconduct, the letter said.

The two organizations have led a “high-profile smear campaign” against Jaman, issuing “false and misleading statements” to “make her appear bigoted and dangerous to transgender people,” the letter said.

“This couldn’t be further from the truth,” the letter reads.

‘It is true that Jaman is in favor of keeping women’s spaces reserved for biological women. But she does not harbor hatred towards anyone based on their gender identity.”

Whether trans women can use women’s locker rooms, bathrooms and other spaces has become a hot topic in America’s culture wars.

Conservatives are currently boycotting gym chain Planet Fitness over its policy allowing trans women to use women’s locker rooms.

Patricia Silva recently came across a trans woman shaving in the women’s locker room at Planet Fitness in Alaska. After she posted a video online about the incident and complained to management, her membership was canceled.
