All staff sacked as major construction company collapses owing millions in Australia
The staff of a major construction company learned over a Zoom call that they had been laid off, even though the company was in bankruptcy and owed $7 million.
Main Facilities Pty Ltd entered administration last Wednesday.
The NSW-based company, which traded as Main Industries, did contract work for the state government, including on projects for schools, health and corrections facilities and courts.
Main Facilities director George Bancs, who drives a flashy McLaren with personalized number plates, blamed the government for terminating contracts with them.
However, this was denied by a government spokesperson.
Main Facilities owes a total of $7 million to creditors, including its 15 employees and Mr. Bancs, news.com.au reported.

According to administrator Mohammad Najjar, the Australian Taxation Office is owed $2.4 million.
Mr Bancs told the publication that their contracts with the government dried up when Labor came to power last March.
‘Once the Labor government came into power they stopped spending. They hung us out to dry,” he said.
A government spokesperson denied this, saying the company had recently “received contracts for maintenance work at several public schools in NSW”.

“The company has also recently completed roof improvements at Hornsby and Wollongong courts,” they said.
One employee claimed he was no longer receiving retirement benefits and staff were told via a Zoom call last Tuesday that they were not allowed to return to work.
Mr Bancs, who also owns the social video content app WWEEVV, said he has put $700,000 of his own money into the company.
He was once seen in a video with popular TikTokker Fonzie Gomez, who stops people on the street to ask what they do for work.
Mr Bancs, sitting in his $580,000 McLaren, said his first job was working at a fruit market, folding potato sacks.
The director also wears a Rolex watch and designer brands.
“Anything I personally wear is mine personally, and not the property of the company,” Mr. Bancs told the publication.

Mr. Bancs has 26 years of solid experience in the construction industry and founded the company in 2013.
