Matt Peet has signed a historic new seven-year contract with Wigan Warriors following his incredible success in his time as head coach to date.
The 39-year-old was promoted to the top job at DW Stadium in October 2021 but has already lifted every trophy in rugby league.
Peet guided Wigan to Challenge Cup glory in his first season in charge, before winning the League Leaders’ Shield and Grand Final last year, and then the World Club Challenge last month.
Now Peet and his assistants, Sean O’Loughlin and Tommy Leuluai, have been rewarded for their efforts with contracts that will keep them at the club until the end of the 2030 season.
“This commitment is a sign of the confidence that the club and the supporters have in me and our team,” said Peet.

‘It’s fantastic to get the deal done. It makes me very proud. It is a job that carries a lot of responsibility and I enjoy it.
‘I am an inexperienced coach. My ambition is to improve and learn. I think I’m in the perfect place to do that and I have some special people around me who can help me.
‘There is so much more we want to achieve, both on and off the pitch. Because we have been drawing for so long, we will have to evolve. We can’t keep coaching the same way – and that’s part of the challenge that excites us.”
Peet first worked at the club from his hometown Wigan in 2008 as a stock coach. He then managed the academy and reserves before becoming assistant to Adrian Lam in 2019, followed by his appointment as head coach in 2021.
The Warriors are the only unbeaten side in Super League this season with four wins from four after winning a record-equalling fifth World Club Challenge against Penrith Panthers at the start of the season.
“Our trio of coaches, led by Matt Peet, have not only won games and trophies, but also the hearts of the players, the fans and the communities they represent,” said Wigan chief executive Kris Radlinski.
‘We have three excellent and determined coaches who are hungry for success, committed to improvement and nurtured in an environment of support and wellbeing – a facet that is often overlooked in professional sport.
“I believe what we have created is a unique offering in the sports industry. I am confident that these exceptional individuals will guide our club to further success.”
