Jake Gyllenhaal says his ‘whole arm swelled up’ after he contracted a staph infection while filming a fight scene on the set of Road House
Jake Gyllenhaal revealed he got a staph infection after filming a fight scene for his new movie Road House.
The actor, 43, said he may have contracted the potentially life-threatening infection, which is caused when bacteria come into contact with open wounds, after accidentally cutting his hand on a piece of glass, during a chat with Conor McGregor about a new movie. delivery of the Armchair expert podcast on Monday.
The entertainer – who was recently spotted with his girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu – assured podcast host Dax Shepard that the Road House crew made sure his injuries were properly treated while he worked on the film.
Gyllenhaal started by talking about how he cut his hand after placing it on a glass-covered bar while working on a fight scene.
He recalled: ‘I felt the glass go into my hand. I remember the feeling(s) of saying, “That’s a lot of glass.”

The Nightcrawler star then told McGregor that he suffered several injuries on the set of the feature film and was unsure which of his cuts led to the infection.
“I thought it came from, remember that scene where you come up with a piece of wood? I grabbed your arm and thought, “Oh, maybe I’m hurt.” But my whole arm swelled up. It turned out to be staph,” he said.
The artist added that the cast of Road House had seen “stuff like that all the time.”
Gyllenhaal further stated that he tried to film his stunts in the safest way possible while working on the film.
“Gratefully, I really tried to take care of everything we did and take care of my body while we were doing it. “I didn’t sustain any major injuries,” he said.
The Academy Award-nominated performer also said that the fact that he wasn’t injured further on the set of the film was “a testament to the team I worked with.”
The new version of Road House serves as a reinterpretation of the original film, which was released in 1989 and starred Patrick Swayze.
Gyllenhaal’s version of the film is about a former UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer at a roadside diner in the Florida Keys.

The world premiere of Road House took place earlier this month at the South By Southwest festival in Austin.
The feature has received generally positive reviews from critics and currently has a 69% rating Rotten tomatoes.
Road House is currently set to debut on the Amazon Prime Video streaming service on Thursday.
