Chinese authorities have arrested three teenage boys over the brutal death and botched funeral of their 13-year-old classmate.

The young boy, identified only by his surname Wang, was reportedly found buried in an abandoned vegetable shed in Handan, northern China, last week.

His face was badly damaged by a shovel used to bury him, state-run Global Times reported.

According to Wang’s father, the boy left his home around 1 p.m. on March 10 and had not been heard from since about 5 p.m.

The boy’s family searched from 5 to 10 p.m. but were unable to find him.

After police got involved and checked surveillance footage, they discovered the boy had last spent time with his three now-incarcerated classmates, all of whom denied meeting him.

But by checking Wang’s WeChat messages, Wang’s father discovered that his son had transferred some money to one of the three bullies.

After presenting the evidence, they quickly broke down and admitted to burying him in the abandoned vegetable shed.

An autopsy has now shown that he suffered serious head and back injuries

Wang’s father said the teenager had a good character and was always eager to help his family with chores around the house.

He was previously reluctant to go to school, but his parents dismissed these concerns because for a long time they did not realize he was being bullied.

Police are still investigating his death.

The case has caused an outpouring of grief across China, with tens of thousands of posts about it on social media platforms Weibo and Douyin.

One social media user said in a comment that received 50,000 likes: “The whole country is watching this case, I hope the police can be honest and give the victim’s family a satisfactory answer.”
