DANNY MURPHY: Rodri holds fort, but Manchester City ARE beatable… I think it’s set up for a perfect farewell for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans

  • Rodri proved to be a star for Man City in the FA Cup, but I think they can be beaten
  • I think the Premier League is ready for a perfect farewell to Jurgen Klopp
  • I’m looking forward to Man United on Sunday… something has to happen for Jurgen’s juggernaut – It’s all a kick-off podcast

This Manchester City machine is ruthless. Sometimes you just have to sit back and admire how they get the job done, regardless of who is fit and who is available.

Their incredible strength in depth means that whoever comes in, they know the philosophy, they know the style, they know their work. It’s all down to the brilliance of Pep Guardiola.

Yes, this is a team of great engineers, but the real miracle is how they maintain the determination, desire and mentality to keep winning.

That’s the hardest thing when you’ve won so much for so long. To keep the machine chugging.

Just look at Rodri, the best standing midfielder in the world. In the final few minutes against Newcastle he spotted danger and broke some nerve to sprint back and clear a cross at the near post. It’s a small detail, but it shows his relentless desire to do the right thing.

It will take something special to stop Manchester City, but I think they can be beaten

It takes something special to stop them.

And yet, while the City machine chewed up another opponent to reach the FA Cup semi-final, I don’t think their march to another treble is a foregone conclusion.

In Liverpool and Arsenal there are two teams that have shown themselves to be brilliant enough, both technically and physically, and bold enough to block City’s accelerations. Liverpool could still draw City in the FA Cup if Jurgen Klopp’s side get past Manchester United today. Arsenal are on course to meet City in the Champions League semi-finals if they both get through. Both will have a say in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool probably should have beaten City at Anfield last week. They showed in the second half that you can still catch them when you are collectively at your best. Arsenal beat them in October.

The Gunners have learned from the shortcomings of the past and have become stronger with players like Declan Rice.

Neither will fear City. They will face the enormous challenge of beating the best team in the world. Because they know they have the power to do something about it.

I’m still City favorites for the Champions League. It’s so hard to beat them over two legs.

But when it comes to the Premier League, my heart and my head say the same thing.

Klopp has won Liverpool the title before, but not in front of the fans. He is about to say goodbye. I’ve looked at their fixtures, I can feel the atmosphere. The perfect farewell is coming. I just think some things are like that.
